3) Meneldil (TA 2 - TA 158): nephew of Isildur from his younger brother, Anarion, who was slain in battle. (Valandil; Isildur's youngest and only surviving son never claimed the title and instead ruled as King of Arnor).

29) Narmacil II (TA 1850 - TA 1856): son of Telumehtar.
30) Calimehtar (TA 1856 - TA 1936): son of Narmacil II.
31) Ondoher (TA 1936 - TA 1944): son of Calimehtar. Both of Ondoher's heirs were slain in battle together with their father.
32) Eärnil II (TA 1945 - TA 2043): the throne was granted to general Eärnil of the House of Anarion by Steward Pelendur because the crown and royalty of Gondor belongs solely to the heirs of Meneldil, son of Anarion.
33) Eärnur (TA 2043 - TA 2050): son of Eärnil II.
Eärnur answered and accepted the second challenge by the Witch-king of Angmar. After entering the gates of Minas Morgul, he was never seen or heard from again.
The Line of Anarion was broken after Eärnur's disappearance and the Stewards of Gondor ruled in his name "until the king returns" for it was not known whether Eärnur had been killed duelling the Witch-king or not and Eärnur had also left without naming an heir.
The Stewards of Gondor ended up ruling for many generations.
