Flower Beauty

After not wearing any mascara since March 2020, the Domestic Goblin decided to try a new mascara...

~ Warrior Princess Mascara by Flower Beauty.
Verdict: Gave fluttery, fanned out lashes. A dry formula which DG prefers. Did not claim to be water proof but gave some promising water resistance. A possible contender to her favourite Maybelline Full n Soft Waterproof.

Since finding out that her favourite concealer (Select Moisturecover in NW25 by MAC) had been discontinued, the Domestic Goblin experimented with various budget and high end options...

~ Light Illusion Full Coverage Concealer by Flower Beauty in the shade Medium Honey.
Verdict: Use sparingly. Photographs well. Works better in warmer weather when skin is not as dry.

Purchased in September 2021 from Superdrug

After satisfaction with the above two products, DG also tried the following Flower Beauty products:

~ Miracle Matte Lip Gloss in Merlot Kiss and Rosewood
Verdict: Colours look different once applied on the lips compared to the tube colour. Rosewood is a 'my lips but better' shade for a no makeup look. Will not repurchase Merlot Kiss.

~ In Your Prime - pore minimising primer
Verdict: Does what it says on the tin. However, there are cheaper alternatives that perform just as well or better.

DG is also considering the Chill Out Smoothing Colour Corrector in Medium Peach when it is available for purchase in the UK. However, DG is unsure about the CBD element.

Fickle mascara tester

~ Lily Lolo Big Lash Mascara
The excess needs to be wiped off first before application due to the formula being wet and gloopy. Despite this, it did not smudge or run in the recent humid weather.
Verdict: Undecided

~ Ilia's Limitless Mascara
Recommended by Youtuber, Isabella, from Effortlessly Chic.
Had high hopes for this. However, I experienced irritation in my eyes which you wouldn't expect to happen with a so-called 'natural' mascara. Lashes also felt uncomfortable all day.
Verdict: Expensive disappointment.

~ Essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume Mascara
Had to wipe off the excess formula in order to use the wand properly. Although lashes were fanned out initially, they then drooped very quickly and did not hold. Might keep the wand to brush out lashes and brows.
Verdict: Okay but will not repurchase.

* These mascaras were tested in 2019 and at the beginning of 2020 *

Lash Cover-up

~ L'Oréal False Lash Sculpt Mascara
Both the formula and the brush gave me the blackest, gloopiest lashes ever. I actually ended up looking like I had sparser lashes than I started with.
Verdict: Rubbish.

~ Maybelline Big Shot Waterproof Mascara

The excess needs to be wiped off the wand before it can be applied to lashes without causing gloops. Formula is slightly tacky.
Verdict: okay.

~ MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash Mascara

Normally I do prefer dry formula mascaras however this mascara did not add any length or volume to my lashes. The only thing it did do was weigh down my lashes and made them droop.
Verdict: Useless.

~ Rimmel 100% Waterproof Mascara
Does what it says on the tin.
Verdict: Holy Grail potential!

Has Domestic Goblin's search come to a conclusion...?

Or does she need to test and review these two before making that decision:

It's a fickle world out there...

G Team

Glossier.com
democratize beauty
Skin first. Makeup second. Glossier - beauty products for real life.

I stumbled upon this brand whilst watching a current favourites video by Estee Lalonde starring Allegra Shaw who mentioned her favourite daytime mascara. Keen to find a mascara that matches my Holy Grail (Maybelline Full n Soft Waterproof), I had initially planned to order just the mascara online but ended up purchasing three products:

~ Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen SPF30
A clear gel sunscreen. Felt comfortable on my skin. Like the fact that it won't go ashen on other skin tones. Very small bottle for the price.

~ Milky Jelly Cleanser
A standard conditioning facial cleanser that is kind on your eyes. Does not claim to remove waterproof mascara  - you will need an oil cleanser for that.

~ Lash Slick Mascara
Dry formula which did not clump regardless of how many layers you apply. However, although this mascara gave me length, it also gave me anorexic-thin and brittle looking lashes. It also did not hold my curl. Deal breaker on all parts.

Complimentary fragrance sample:
~ You
Claims to have notes of iris root, pink pepper, ambrette, ambrox and muskHowever, according to my nose and two other colleagues, it just smells like fruity hair conditioner.

First purchase - August 2018

Verdict: products were not good enough to warrant a second purchase.

MASquarading

~  La Roche Posay Respectissime Waterproof Mascara
Verdict: A decent mascara but lumbered with an expensive price tag.
Update: The formula clumped up after only a few months of opening.

~ Primark Aqua Lash Mascara

Survived a hot Sunday afternoon in a conservatory. However the formula is not able to hold my curl.
Verdict: Okay.

~ Primark PS False Lash Effect Mascara
Dry formula and big brush gave a nice effect. A shame it is not waterproof. Lashes drooped quickly.
Verdict: Okay.

Flutter of Eyelashes

Domestic Goblin continues the pilgrimage to find her Holy Grail mascara:

~ Maracuja Oil Mascara by 100% Pure
Pros: Water resistant. Vegan. No adverse reactions.
Cons: Unstable formula. The first application was perfect but subsequent applications were gloopy and wet.
Verdict: Okay as long as you wipe off any excess.

~ Max Factor Masterpiece Waterproof Mascara
Pros: Holds your curl all day. Definitely waterproof.
Cons: Makes lashes look too long and thin (think Lisa Simpson).
Verdict: Okay.

Almay Get Up and Grow Waterproof Mascara
Pros: Dry formula with noticeable lash growth.
Cons: Lashes became unruly. Water-resistant rather than waterproof.
Verdict: Okay.

H&M Pure Definition Mascara
Pros: Clean natural finish. Minimal smudging.
Cons: Only water resistant, not water proof. Does not hold my curl.
Verdict: Adequate.

~ YSL Babydoll Mascara

Pros: Tear-proof and shower-resistent despite not claiming to be a waterproof mascara.
Cons: Made lashes look thin and brittle.
Verdict: Expensive disappointment.

~ Lily Lolo Natural Mascara - New
Pros:  Natural formula with no chemical nasties.
Cons: Formula quite gloopy. Need to wipe off the excess.
Verdict: Okay.

~ Maybelline Classic Volume Express Waterproof Mascara
Pros: Affordable price.
Cons: A very basic mascara that gives no wow factor.
Verdict: Inadequate.

~ NYX Stacked Mascara
Pros: No clumping.
Cons: Apart from darken my lashes it doesn't do anything else to them. No volume, no curl, no length.
Verdict: Inadequate.

Shu Uemura Ultimate Natural Mascara
Pros: No clumping, holds a curl, waterproof.
Cons: Did not survive an eyebrow threading session. Tacky feel to lashes.
Verdict: Good.

~ Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara
Pros: Very close to Maybelline Full n Soft Waterproof.
Cons: High end price.
Verdict: High end HG option.

Mascara Madness

My search for an affordable Holy Grail mascara that is readily available in the UK continues...

~ Korres Volcanic Minerals Mascara
Love the strengthening and protective properties of this formula, however, the excess must be wiped off the wand before use, otherwise the effect is too intense and raccoony for my liking.  Verdict: okay.

~ SEVENTEEN Falsifeye HD Mascara
Holy high definition Batman!
Verdict: good - hope Boots 17 will create a waterproof version soon.

~ Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara
This was a goodwill gesture from Eyeko due to a distribution error. I like the brush but the formula doesn't actually do much for my lashes which are already a decent length.
Verdict: adequate.

~ Eyeko Sport Waterproof Mascara
Gave a nice smoky effect on my lashes. Great brush.
Verdict: very good.

~ Maybelline Colossal Volume Express Waterproof Mascara
Not as waterproof as the other Maybelline mascaras but not bad nonetheless.
Verdict: adequate.

~ Max Factor 2000 Calorie Waterproof Mascara
Gave me fluttery lashes and held my curl but very messy to use.
Verdict: good.

Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara
A very basic waterproof mascara. Gave a natural look but did not hold my curl.
Verdict: okay.

~ 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Mascara
Gave natural looking fanned-out matte lashes. Smells like a fruit cocktail. Not waterproof.
Verdict: quite good.

ARTDECO All In One Waterproof Mascara
Gave length, no volume. Lashes felt noticeably stiffer after application.
Verdict: adequate.

~ Max Factor False Lash Effect Waterproof Mascara
Dark glossy formula. Gave very long lashes but absolutely no volume. Definitely waterproof.
Verdict: good.

Bobbi Brown No Smudge Mascara
Gave a clean application. Definitely smudge-proof and waterproof. Would have liked more fullness and softness in my lashes.
Verdict: very good.

Splashes, splashes, splashes!

UPDATE: Further on from my post entitled: Lashes, lashes, lashes! I have tested out several mascaras from my list and here are my thoughts:

~ Maybelline Illegal Lengths Waterproof Mascara
It is a dry formula that passed the hot bath/waterproof test, however, the fibres are making the lashes fan out in random directions and gave uneven extensions.
Verdict: okay.

~ d.j.v. Beautenizer Fiberwig Mascara
Excessively glossy and long lashes; excessively large amounts of flaking.
Although the formula repels oil, it washes off too easily with water.
Would probably suit those with ultra short lashes.
Verdict: expensive fail.

~ Lily Lolo Lash Alert Natural Mascara
Non-toxic formula. Looks better when layered over a waterproof mascara.
Verdict: fairly good.

~ Urban Decay Skyscraper Multi Benefit Mascara
The design of the brush means that there is no excess to wipe off.
Would benefit those with ultra short lashes; doesn't do anything more for those who already have decent length lashes.
Verdict: okay.

~ Eyeko Black Magic Mascara
It is imperative that the excess is wiped off the wand before use. Passed the hot bath test and sleep test. Gave some curl, no drama.
Verdict: okay.

~ MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash Mascara
This was a complimentary sample.
Incredibly wet formula. Blackened my lashes but did nothing else for them.
Verdict: fail.

~ Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara
This was part of a free gift. The wet formula gave my lashes a glossy coating but did nothing else for them. Verdict: fail.

~ Clinique Feathering Mascara
This was a birthday present. Lashes were fluttery. Passed the hot bath test. However, did not hold my curl and flaked. Verdict: okay.

~ Maybelline The Rocket Waterproof Mascara
Wore this mascara when travelling from one country to another and it held my curl for 36 hours!

Verdict: has potential for HG status.

The quest continues...

Lashes, lashes, lashes!

I mentioned in a previous post that my holy grail mascara is Maybelline Full n Soft Waterproof in soft black. However, as this product is not actually available for purchase in the UK, I have had to purchase these from US sellers via eBay.

Therefore, in my quest to find another holy grail mascara that is easily available in the UK, I have trawled the internet and sampled a few not so good varieties.

The reason I love Maybelline's Full n Soft is the dry waterproof formula. This allows me to achieve full yet natural looking lashes even if I pump too many layers on. I can also make this mascara work with any type of wand. It gives me volume; holds my curl and makes my lashes look fluttery.

The affordable price tag is also a bonus.

Currently on my waiting list for testing:

~ Maybelline Illegal Lengths Waterproof Mascara
~ d.j.v. Beautenizer Fiberwig Mascara

~ Lily Lolo Lash Alert Natural Mascara
~ Urban Decay Skyscraper Multi Benefit Mascara
~ Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

~Clinique Feathering Mascara

~ Maybelline The Rocket Mascara
~ YSL Babydoll Mascara in Brown

~ Origins Ginzing Brightening Mascara
~ 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Mascara in Black Tea/Chocolate

~ Bourjois Volume Glamour Ultra Care mascara
